Distinktive Stamps and How To Use them!
Have you had a play with the new Distinktive Photopolymer Stamps?
Are you unhappy with how they are working for you, and not seeing that clean and crisp image that can be achieved with Distinktive?
Don't be disheartened! There's a few things you can try to get that beautiful crisp image that Distinktive offers.
Main Problem - Incorrect Stamping Base
Foam vs Nothing
When I stamp with Photopolymer Stamps, I always use a cheap foam mat from a craft store, or the mat that comes with the Stamparatus®. This ensures an even stamp. However, with the Distinktive Stamps, the cushion to get an even pressure is the exact opposite of what you need. If you're not achieving a crisp look - make sure you have nothing under the cardstock you're stamping onto. See the photos below for my comparison photos with, and without a foam mat.
Main Problem - Too Much Ink
'Inky' Ink Pads
One of the main problems is ink pads that are too 'inky'. There are two options for this, you can either get a large flat tool (a bone folder is perfect for this) and run it along the ink pad, almost smoothing the ink back into the pad. Then, make sure you lightly tap the stamp onto the pad.
Another option is to use Sponge Daubers (Item 133773 , 5 for $9.00). By using the daubers, you are controlling how much ink is applied to the stamp.
Ink Colour
Using a dark ink creates that depth, making the image a lot clearer! See the photos below where I've used the same stamp set, both with the colour Pink. However one I've used Melon Mambo, quite a bold dark pink, and the other I've used Blushing Bride. See how using a darker, bolder colour makes the crispness of Distinktive stand out?
The stamp on the left was stamped how I would usually stamp images; a foam mat was placed underneath the cardstock, the stamp was placed onto a block before stamping on the ink pad. See how there is way too much ink?
Now the stamp on the right was stamped with a foam mat, but this time I used daubers to place the ink onto the stamp. You can see that the image is starting to come through, but there's not an even placement of the image on the paper.
This is starting to look a lot better! For both stamps, I applied the ink to the stamps using sponge daubers, and removed the foam mat and stamped directly on a hard surface. The only difference with these images is the ink colour. See how a darker colour creates that depth in the Distinktive Stamps?
Now this is a lot of information - I'll leave this post pinned to the top of my blog for a while so you can refer back to it when trying your new Photopolymer Distinktive Stamps for the first time!
